Evolution of Art: Reception for Picasso Lesson (PHILLIPS School)

What a great night to be a curator! Tonight Beanetics Coffee Roasters is literally pulsating with excitement!  It is the Opening Reception for the PHILLIPS School's student art show, Picasso Lesson. This colorful exhibit of 15+ oil pastel drawings explores Picasso's periodic style. The students (ages 13-20) created self-portraits where one-half the face is front forward and the other half is in profile. And in true Picasso fashion, the colors used by the students are imaginative and vibrant! This exhibit is a real treat for the eyes and a wonderful expression of the exuberant personalities of the students at the PHILLIPS School!

Tonight students, teachers, parents, and community members are all here celebrating this inspired creativity! And as an extra bonus, we are being serenaded by the musical stylings of the Stewart Sisters, playing the mandolin and guitar...

And it is important to tell you that this show is a fundraiser for the school's art program. I just overheard one teacher tell some one that the school's art program has a budget of $1.50 per student per year. With that in mind, it is even more amazing what Mary Lynch (the PHILLIPS School Annandale Campus) art teacher has been able to accomplish!

  10. I am very impressed with the style of the drawings. I find it very interesting: the combination of drawing a face by looking at it straight on and from the profile. I love the variety of colors...
