Evolution of Art: "On the Italian Riviera" by Sarah Burkle Bohn

Today we hung a new show at Beanetics. Sarah Burkle Bohn's first solo show celebrates Dolce Vita, the sweet life!  Sarah's acrylic paintings are colorful, vibrant, and happy, capturing scenes from her recent trip to Italy's Ligurian Coastline with her family. This exhibit will bring joy to all who see it!

Here's what Sarah says about her own art process:

I discovered the joys of painting after the birth of my daughter.  A press junkie by trade, I covered my first canvas with the Washington Post printed the day my daughter was born and painted over it, allowing the fresh and vibrant colors to tell my story as a new mother. Since then, I have enjoyed this medium as a way of touching others. In addition to painting, I enjoy giving back to my community, seeing the world through my children’s eyes, traveling, reading and writing. I am married and have lived in New York; Aix-en-Provence and Strasbourg, France; Washington, DC; and currently live in Vienna, VA.
I find inspiration for my artwork from my family and life experiences. When I began painting, I worked exclusively on contemporary pieces and have slowly incorporated a more impressionistic style. I work mostly with acrylics and love creating texture with vibrant and bold colors on canvas. Throughout my life, I have been moved by many local, relatively unknown artists as well as internationally-renowned greats, like Chagall, Kandinsky and Matisse. If one of my paintings can bring joy to its viewer, then I believe I have fulfilled my goal as an artist.

Sarah's show will be on exhibit at Beanetics Coffee Roasters (7028 Columbia Pike, Annandale, Virginia 22003) through November 2, 2010.

Join us for a "stroll through the Riviera" this Sunday, September 19th from 2-4pm at Beanetics for an opening reception. See you there!
