Art, Poetry, and Coffee: Making HerStory @ Beanetics!

Making HerStory4: Feminine Reflection is at Beanetics! While the main show is at the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum in WDC, and another show of work is at Peace and a Cup of Joe in Baltimore, we have a little piece of the show right here in Annandale, Virginia!

Six of the Making HerStory artists are represented at Beanetics and this coming Sunday, April 5th, we will be having a very special event to celebrate the show and women's creativity! Ashira Malka, a local poet, will be giving a reading, and we will be having a coffee-tasting. It's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Stop by and taste the coffee, hear some dynamic verse, and see some fabulous art. The show looks great!

Here's a list of the artists and their pieces:

Heather Schmaedeke, Thought-Full, $475
(mixed media on watercolor paper, 16"x 20")
Nihal Kececi, Spirit of Tea, $950
(acrylic on canvas, 22" x 28")
Elnora Wilson, Paris Day - Me Time, $175
(print, 11"x 14")
Robin McDougal, Tidal Basin Oil, $200
(photography, 24" x 18")
Gwenn Zaberer, Sunflower Quilt, $1,500
(handmade paper & acrylic, 30" x 30")
Nil S. Navaie, Breeze of Amethyst, $100

I hope you'll come by and join in the festivities! The more, the merrier!

  1. "Sunflower Quilt": The closer I looked at this one, the more I appreciated the finishing touches -- the hand-stitching and recycled/handmade paper are great touches. The color scheme is extremely appealing to me personally, as I am drawn to nature tones--and there is a great balance of color throughout, allowing the eyes to pass easily through the entire piece. I love the collage technique that the artist used...the layering was very tastefully done!
