"Bayou" by Corinne Hiland line drawing currently on display |
We are here at Beanetics for the opening reception of "A Regular Show" by shop manager and coffee roaster Corinne (Wren) Hiland.
Already there's talk about "the really interesting pieces." When you come by, be sure to check out the assemblages on the wall across from the counter...
Take a closer look... Did you notice the teeth in "Petals"? Or "Time and Temp" displaying the vials of coffee beans at ten different temperatures of roasting.

Wren's work is very diverse... photography, assemblage, drawing, collage. If you want to know more about Wren and her approach to art, check out this interview. And there's a fun article about the show on Patch.com!
The atmosphere tonight is joyful and cozy. Lots of great treats (cupcakes, eclairs, cheese and crackers, fancy cake, pastries of all sorts and sizes) and warm drinks... coffees from around the world, lovely herbal teas, and hot cocoa... It may be chilly outside, but inside it's warm and cozy. Great people! Great conversation! Come by and join the fun.
Wren's show is on display through January 18, 2011.
Loved the mixed media pieces. Very thought provoking. The photograph "Branches" is beautiful and uplifting.
ReplyDeleteLove the multi media, there's something for everyone's taste! Pieces are beautifully framed and displayed.
ReplyDeleteWren!! Your art is the bomb!!! i love the frames on your pictures and my fav is the bean roasting process! the beans in the tubes are so cool!! please do more!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the way Wren takes an image of an abject and makes it appear to be something else. For example, "Closer" appears to be water, but actually it's vacuum-packed coffee in a sliver bag.Or "Petals, from a difference look like seeds of a perennial, but on closer examination they are teeth. I think my favorite piece is "Time and Temp" which shows how the coffee changes through the roasting process from its natural jade-like color to the dark roasted coffee bean. Wren is truly an artist, incorporating all different areas of her life in her art. She sees the world through her artist's perception! Life is art! It's not something apart; it's constant, living, now. She's able to capture that!
ReplyDeleteCorrine has a great eye for color. Her photographs can really bring a room to life.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky to see these works in progress, and know the blood and sweat she put into them. I'm glad they'be been well received.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is "Picture Box" because of the colors, and because it elicits memories of childhood.
I really like "Bayou," the bold framing really makes the drawing pop out. It's a pleasant landscape that fits very neatly inside of its small matte cut-out. "Petals" is one I can't quite wrap my head around, but the teeth are almost scary. I wouldn't expect that inside of a picture frame and that makes it interesting to examine. But, overall, everything is great! I'd love to see more!
ReplyDeleteCorrine is able to explain so many dimensions of life with her photography. The piece 'Bayou' colored its own stark landscape with serenity. It seemed to show the contrast between repetition and individuality. In it, there is a steady growth from the calm.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your works!
