Evolution of Art: "A Walk in the Woods," by Lisa Lipkin

Today we hung a new show at Beanetics: "A Walk in the Woods: Ink Drawings" by Lisa Lipkin. It's different from anything we've exhibited here before.

Lisa's drawings are filled with subtle complexity. At first glance they are simple scenes of leaves and trees from nature. As you continue to look, you begin to notice the artist's creative interpretations, whimsical patterns, and juxtaposition of line and space. The overall effect is refreshing and pleasing to the eye.

The Artist and Her Artwork (in her own words):

My name is Lisa Lipkin-Hinkofer. I am a painter and I also draw with ink. I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and I have been drawing since I was eight years old. I am a self-taught artist. I come from a family of artists, so I was surrounded by it as I grew up. I love art; it will always be a part of my life.

My artwork is based on my nature walks. Along the way, as I walk the trails, I take pictures of different kinds of leaves. I will also take home samples and trace them on paper, where I simply fill them in with designs. I will also take pictures of trees. Those are the best.

I will capture groups of trees—some standing, some lying down, and some in odd shapes and formations. Nature is my Muse. It’s where I find peace and ideas for my ink drawings.

We will be hosting an artist reception for Lisa on Saturday, August 7th, from 7-9pm.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come by. As always, there will be great conversation, coffee, yummy treats, and music. A great way to enjoy your Saturday evening... Bring your family! Bring your friends! Bring strangers off the street! See you Saturday!
