Evolution of Art: An Evening with Cheryl Leibovitz and friends from SPARK

This coming Saturday, June 12th, is the next artist reception at Beanetics! This one proves to be extra-special. Cheryl Leibovitz, whose "Works in Red" are currently on display, has invited her talented group of friends from SPARK.

Mark Owen Martin, a Maryland-based composer and musician, will play some of his original compositions on the harp.

And there will be readings (short story, poetry, and prose) by several local authors:

Mary L. Tabor is the author of the prize-winning short story collection The Woman Who Never Cooked—get it on Amazon. She is reading tonight from her memoir (Re)Making Love: A Sex Sixty Story that includes four SPARK response pieces. The book will be published on June 15 as both eBook and paperback. Check her blog and sign up to get it. If you write her, you’ll get invited to the book party!

Sarah Krouse is a reporter living in Washington DC.

Amy Moffitt is a poet, singer, and blogger who lives in, but is not of, the Washington, DC area. Her travels have taken her as far as Iceland, Guatemala, and (repeatedly) the UK, and she is her happiest when surrounded by people from other countries, belief systems and cultures. A self-identified Presby-Cathlo-Episcopa-Mennonite, Amy is an active participant in the life of Common Table, an emergent church in Vienna, Virginia, and in Emergent Village.

Doug Poms is a Virginia-based writer.

Charisse Cecil is a writer and artist in Alexandria, VA.

DiAna Hart Smith considers retirement her smartest career move after serving over 33 years with the U.S. Forest Service. Her writing has appeared in The Washington Post.

Quentin Paquette can always be found working for meaning, with instruments, implements, words, or bare hands. The irony of trying to use words to pierce the veil of illusion is not lost on him, but it’s the method he’s best suited for. He has participated in three rounds of Spark so far, and also writes from the DC area for many other purposes.

Cheryl Somers Aubin has an MA in writing from Johns Hopkins University and has been writing and publishing for twenty years. Two of her essays are featured in an upcoming anthology, which benefits Children’s Hospitals. Cheryl will be on the faculty of the Cape Cod Writers Conference this summer and is currently working on a book about her grandmother’s life with a bootlegger gangster in Galveston, TX in the 1920s and 30s.

Rusty Lynn is an artist reborn and unbound. After a 40-year career in ministry, social work, and pastoral counseling, Rusty is once again producing art. He is an abstract painter, collage artist, and sculptor. He is also the co-creator and leader of a new course called Mindful Meditation for Enhanced Creativity.

The reception is from 7-9pm. Come an by and see creative expression at its best! You'll be glad you did. (And yes, there will be lots of yummy treats and good coffee!)

See you at Beanetics: 7028 Columbia Pike, Annandale, Virginia 22003!
